Stephanie Rubin has loved working with her hands and fabrics since she was a little girl.
At the tender age of seven, Stephanie's Mom taught her to use a sewing machine, which Stephanie used to lovingly stitch together bits and pieces of leftover materials to create blankets and clothing for her stuffed animals.
In 1990, as a sophomore at the University of Delaware, Stephanie discovered the Computer Aided Surface Design department, and quickly switched her major from Graphic Design to Fine Art. During the next 2 ½ years, Stephanie renewed her passion of fabrics and the endless design possibilities this medium had to offer. Upon graduating, though, she realized that her degree did not lend itself to the "real world" and Stephanie found herself working as a Graphic Designer and Marketing Manager to pay the bills. To satisfy her hands-on creative side, though, she dabbled in several crafty cottage industries, including hand-marbled accessories and gift basket design.
But, like most of these "Mompreneur" stories go, a loving husband and two beautiful daughters created a wonderful distraction for Stephanie. For several years, the only creative outlets she enjoyed were Playdoh and finger painting (and she loved every minute of it!). It wasn't long after the girls were in school full-time, though, that Stephanie felt the urge to reinvent herself creatively. While browsing in the sewing department of the local Wal-mart, she found a free project sheet for making a purse. Intrigued, Stephanie decided to try it and once again, her passion for fabrics ignited. She knew she was onto something when friends and family immediately bought the half dozen samples she had made, with requests for more.
And so, Taylor Dan Designs LLC was born. But, where, you ask, did the name come from? "I wanted a name that was sophisticated, but youthful. The combination of my daughters' middle names, Lindsay Taylor and Alexa Danielle, was perfect." In keeping with the name, Stephanie's design approach combines classic contours with carefully selected fabrics – some traditional, others contemporary. "A handbag is more than just a place to hold your keys and wallet. It makes a statement about a woman's personality, mood or social status. Accessorizing with a handbag from Taylor Dan Designs LLC shows you appreciate beautiful, handcrafted, unique items, and in my opinion, it means your style is showing."
